A. Description of Narrative Writing
Narrative writing is one of the
most familiar text in Writing Skills. That is favorite side for all of people
arrangement; children until adult. This written can be devided into two types,
those are fictive and nonfictive writtens. One is text which focusing some
specific participants that have several features making different from other
genres. It has social function is to tell stories either in present which is called present narrative,
past events which called past narrative and future which is called future
narrative, to entertain or amuse the readers or the listeners. Narrative is
used most often in; fables, myths, legends, detective story, adventure story,
thrillers, and dramas. Usually that tells about things, people, animal and
place that have done in the past by using chrological and specific rising
problem.
Usually narrative text is written
in different way. For instance, if we are going to make fable, we will think
about the problem that will be appeared by us first, then we continue to the
opening or orientation of the fable and how it will be end, whether by using
happy ending for the main figures or sad ending. It written can be understood
easily by the readers because the plot, especially on the resolution side.
Readers feel that narrative text is the easiest text; (1) in making of it, (2)
and in reading them. It is like Television drama, movie in cinema or even Film
Television (FTV) which is extremely piece of cake to guess the plot of them.
B. How
to Differ From Other Writing Genres
Actually it is preciously simple
for differing between Narrative writing and other genres. What is that? Yeah,
we just think about the generic structure of narrative text itself. Those are
orientation, complication, resolution and coda (flexible or optional).
1.
Orientation
It consists of introducing event or informing time
events, place, and figures inside. One is always be in the first of text as the
beginning of it.
2.
Complication
Complication is to describe the rising problem that be
faced by the participants or main figures with their relation, life, him/
themselves, etc., in the process of social interaction. In this part, it is
usually the interesting part that can be attracted the listeners or readers
because it brings to the facing of crises, and invite them into story
situation. It is usually on the middle of text itself.
3.
Resolution
This parts shows the power of the participants (figures)
to solve the crises, better or worsely. How the way the participants take a
part of solving problems. This part usually take on the last text that be the
sign of story ending.
4. Coda ,
which summarizes the point of the story and moral message we may get.
One
thing that must be understood, Narrative writing has complication on the text.
What is complication? Complication is the rising problem that be faced by the
participants or main figures with their relation, life, him/ themselves, etc.,
in the process of social interaction. So, the figure always get problem that
always and must be done in the end of writing to bring the readers in the
special situation and feel the taste of it. It does not exist on other genres,
meanwhile Recount text that tells story in the past. The differences among them
are; (1) if in the narrative writing, the complication always appear by using
specific time , for example, at 7 O'çlock, on Sunday and etc., (2) Recount writing
just tells in general event with general simple events.
When we are going to make narrative writing, we need steps that built it in the good text depend on the genre.
1. Orientation (opening) that tells the readers about the figures, time
background and place and character of
the figures. In this part, usually main idea is a pair that can not be
separated. It exist for the main chief or jumping stone to develope the next
sentences or parts. The main idea is in a topic sentence that indicates the
writing will be about.
For instance,
“I have an experience
which is so unforgettable when I was attending senior high school graduation
ceremony.
One was preciously great moment in my life ways. No one will say “It is not
interesting event” if they are asked about the situation of it.”
2. Complication, resolution and coda contain of
supporting sentences that have strong correlation with the topic sentence
before ( on the orientation part). Complication itself draws the rising of
problem that mast be faced by figure, while resolution is showing the way the
figure solve the problem or crises.
For example,
“In
that “sacral” day, I could not pass the time run meanwhile a second from
preparation time before attending one until closing time of the ceremony. In
the morning at 3 AM, I have been woken up by my mother for preparing it. Then I
took ablution water and had ready to pray Tahajud. In my Tahajud pray I prayed
for goodness and blessing in all of ceremony along. I hoped there will be
nothing bad happen such as failed in the final examination. After praying I
decided to prepare my graduation dress code; those were black coat, black tie,
white long shirt and black trouser by ironing them neatly, so I would be looked
perfect. At 5.30 AM I took a shower and
continued to dress up and make up. I did not let my time pass uselessly, so I
used second by second of my time wisely.
After
all of my preparation moments were done, I continued to go to my school, Senior
High School State 1 Purbolingggo, East Lampung
at 7 o`clock. I was preciously nervous and hesitate, “Will I get
announcement about my graduation letter?” I was extremely aware if I could not
graduate from it.
When
I came to my beloved school, I was really exhausted because the situation there
was absolutely crowded. All of third level students; Science students and
Social students jointed at the graduation ceremony. They were seemed glad. They
wore fashionable dress code; all of the boys wore cool black tuxedo while the
girls wore Kebaya, Indonesia traditional costume. They were in maximally
fashionable students of that day, not exception me. That condition was very
different from the previous time, because at the previous time we never wore a
tuxedo or Kebaya in the school, so that was unusual moment. Without thinking
too much, I continued to meet them, especially my classmates. I run to reach
them quickly and I screamed by saying Acson, the name of my XII Science 1
class. They were shocked to see me and
they huge me strongly. We expressed our great feeling by giving congratulation
utterances each other. We chatted about graduation result that would be announced
after while waiting the ceremony held.
At
9 o`clock, the graduation ceremony was opened by two master ceremonies. They
congratulated for us. Not only the hosts that showed their congratulation but
also our juniors. It was showed by their art performance, such as musical drama
from Science classes with the tittle was Galih and Rahmat, Hypnotize Comedy by
Social classes with the tittle was Bukan Uya Kuya, Singing performance by
musical extracurricular, Memorizing Al Quran performance by Rohis
extracurricular and Sigeh Pengunten dance performance by Art and Culture
extracurricular. They were enthusiastic to entertain and congratulate our graduation. They
brought us to the pride that could not be drawn.
Finally,
we were in graduation announcement. Our teacher form, Madam Titi Hariyati
spread out the white announcement envelope that the contain was name, examination
number, and information that we graded the examination or we were failed. She
said, “If you do not get this paper, it means you are failed, and you must
repeat your study next year.” We were afraid with that statement. We just could
pray that we can pass the study on the time. Not different to me, I prayed
while crying to get the announcement envelope. Madam Titi continued to spread
the envelope out to all of my classmates. In the last spreading, I did not get
it. I was trembling while holding my tears. Madam titi told, “ I am sorry Ta, you
do not get the envelope, you have to retry for following examination next
year.” Suddenly, all of my classmates huge me and said that I must be patient because
it was God blessing. I cried about it. I did not think that I would not be
failed. When the other friends were happy, but I was sad. I felt hopeless and
my body was weak. I could not stand or just speak for greeting their
achievements. After the announcement, all of students went forward to get fond
memories and for getting picture. I just could watch it from my seat.
Suddenly,
my school head master went to stage. He asked to the all students to have back
to their seat. “I am going to inform you something, please keep calm down” he
said. He opened a file folder and he called my name to go forward on the stage.
I went to stage directly while hoping nothing problem. When I was on the stage,
he said that I was not failed in the examination. I was surprised. I bowed my
body and said thanks to my almighty God`s blessing. I cried to show it because
it was trap to make me sad. I felt very lucky for nothing bad was happened.
However, that was my memorable senior high school graduation ceremony that I
will not ever forget about it.”
Great
Unforgettable Moment in My Life
I have an experience which is so unforgettable when I was
attending senior high school graduation ceremony. One was
preciously great moment in my life ways. No one will say “It is not interesting
event” if they are asked about the situation of it.

· Underlined
sentence is called as the topic sentence
of it. Why? The reason is because ; (1) it is first sentence in a paragraph,
(2) it introduces the main idea of the paragraph, (3) summarize the main idea
of the paragraph that means indicating
to the readers what the paragraph or writing will be about.
Have done? It is absolutaly easy , isn’t
